Restoring Our Waterways with Oysters
Nestled in the heart of Port Salerno, a true “fisherman’s paradise,” Shrimper’s Grill & Raw Bar is more than just a dining destination; it’s a cornerstone of our vibrant community. Committed to our community, our waterways and local environment are very important to us, which is why we have actively participated in Florida Oceanographic Society’s past FLOOR Oyster Shell Recycling and Restoration program.
Oysters play a critical role in our ecosystem by helping to filter nutrients and particles from the water, provide food for marine animals, and even help reduce shoreline erosion. The 2021 & 2022 FLOOR Oyster Shell Recycling and Restoration program focused on restoring oyster reef habitat in the St. Lucie Estuary and Indian River Lagoon by using donated oyster shells as a foundation for new reef construction. New oysters attach themselves to these shells, continuing to grow the reef and enhancing water filtration.

We are incredibly proud to have donated 9,812 lbs. of used oyster shells to the program in 2021 alone! To put that in perspective, that is more than the weight of a 40-foot shipping container! Our contributions have directly supported the growth of oyster reefs in our area, which in turn help maintain the health of our waterways.
